Elkon project target is to develop deposits within Yuzhnaya Zone in the Elkon Uranium Province, Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and to construct Elkon Mining Metallurgical Plant (Elkon MMP) with an annual estimated capacity of 5,000 tonnes of uranium with associated extracting of gold, silver, and molybdenum.
Development of deposits within Yuzhnaya Zone is a strategic aim within Russian nuclear industry development program, realization of which will provide up to 30% of Russia's demand for natural uranium. Furthermore, because of major social and economic significance construction of Elkon MMP was included into investment project "Integrated Development of Southern Yakutia" (IDSY) enrolled by the decision of the Government of the Russian Federation on the list of project funded with Investment Fund of the Russian Federation. State Corporation Rosatom was appointed as responsible executive.
